Secrets of an Alpha Male by JD Hawkins

  • Published: Coming October 25!

I’m Connor ‘Alpha Male’ Anderson. Pound for pound I’m the best MMA fighter in America, and I’ve got the brains, balls, and brawn to back it up – 230 pounds of pure muscle, infinite charm, and the stamina to last all night long. But with the biggest fight of my career coming up, I’ve got to keep my pants zipped and get my head in the game.

That’s when Frankie Jones comes in. An amazingly hot yoga teacher, she drives me crazy with those booty shorts and sports bras. I’ll hold downward dog as long as she wants so I can show her my cobra. She’s a total bombshell, feisty, and challenges me every step of the way. She doesn’t fall for my alpha game, and that only turns me on more. But how can I get myself into her skin-tight leggings, with the pressure of this title match coming up and my trainer’s orders to keep it in my pants?

Before I met Frankie, all I wanted was to win this fight.

But now?

All I want is her.

Hey awesome nerds! Who’s ready for a book review? It’s been a few weeks since we’ve had one, and I am pretty excited to share this one.

Ok confession time. I’ve previously read one of JD’s books and I didn’t really care much for it. So when I received the ARC I was a little apprehensive about reading Secrets of an Alpha Male. I just thought it was going to be another guy full of himself that will have me rolling my eyes going, “For the love of peanut butter, please stop yourself.” And partially I was right, Connor is all full of himself. HOWEVER, there was no eye rolling involved. The moment I started reading the book, all I kept thinking was, “YES! This is the kind of writing that I want from an author.” But let me not start the fangirling this early in a review, it’s not very lady like.

Connor is everything a girl like me dreams about. Tall, handsome, built like a house, and did I mention he’s a Pro-UFC fighter? I know, the girly bits and the kickboxer in me were quivering with anticipation. He landed an incredible UFC debut fight that if he won, he’d be up for a title match. Did he deserve the shot? Most people didn’t think so. But did that faze Connor? Heck no! He was an Alpha Male after all, the best thing since cake pops and donuts. Nothing could stop him. There was no doubt in his mind he was going to win, and show all the haters he was the best of the best.

Then we have one of my favorite heroins I’ve read in a while, Frankie. She is the owner and sole instructor of a failing yoga studio. There she was, almost broke but trying to live her dream and support herself. She wasn’t about to give up easy and roll over and let her studio die. That’s not her style and she is too proud for that. Frankie was good at what she did, she just needed a break. I beyond admired that about her, and I found myself respecting her. I could relate to her drive and determination. Although she was very beautiful, vanity wasn’t part of her vocabulary.

After meeting at a juice bar, I know right, an MMA fighter at a juice bar? What a riot! The tension between these two was like a sizzling fajita coming out of the kitchen. I was a bit addicted to it and didn’t want to stop reading. I wanted to know what on earth was going to happen. Will Connor win the fight? Will his psycho ex girlfriend successfully break Connor and Frankie up? Will Frankie’s studio survive? Is Frankie’s sister actually happy in her marriage? Will Butch ever smile? As a book nerd, the worst feeling is when you want to get to the end but don’t want it to end. Ever felt that way? This was the case with Secrets of and Alpha Male.

Speaking of Connor’s old cranky trainer, Butch. I adore him and want him to be my grandpa. And also, I am demanding a Matt (Connor’s best-friend) book. Please and thank you JD!

So yes, I went into this book with a ton of doubt but JD proved me wrong, and wrote a book that kept me wanting more. It was engaging, and super sexy. So I am giving this book 4 Nerd Glasses out of 5! I am keeping my fingers crossed that he develops a series around the gym. There were so many characters that left me waiting to know their deal.

This books will be released on October 25th on Amazon. But for now, add it to your “Want to Read” list on Goodreads.

PS- Cover model looks like Jon Snow.
