Happy Saturday y’all! Originally, I was going to feature some lipgloss swatching today. However, last night I was part of a beautiful tradition at Ange’s house and I had to share it!
This tradition started four years ago. Here’s the story behind it:
In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Ange had three children who couldn’t go to school. Two of the kids were Jewish and wanted to experience decorating a Christmas tree for the first time. Wanting them to fully be a part the experience, they made Star of David and dreidel ornaments to add to the tree. And thus the Christmukkah Tree was born.
The second year the group of three grew to six, and they were all from various backgrounds: Jewish, Haitian, Irish Catholic, and Puerto Rican. Different, right? But together, they put up a beautiful tree. They didn’t care about religion, beliefs, or skin color. All they cared about was their party, their mission, and of course that they got pizza for dinner. Priorities of course.
After that the group has grown and the ornaments have gotten more elaborate. Everyone is asked to bring an ornament that represents who they are. However, only the children are allowed to decorate the Christmukkah Tree.
Here’s are picture of the trees through out the years for you to enjoy!
There was an addition this year to this great tradition. We collected toys for Toys for Tots. Something we’ll keep doing for years to come.
I’m so happy I was able to be part of this beautiful tradition. A tradition about unity and love. And isn’t that what the Holidays is all about? Thanks for including me Ange!
