He’s young. He’s hot. He’s also evil. He’s . . . the librarian.
When Cynthia Rothschild’s best friend, Annie, falls head over heels for the new high-school librarian, Cyn can totally see why. He’s really young and super cute and thinks Annie would make an excellent library monitor. But after meeting Mr. Gabriel, Cyn realizes something isn’t quite right. Maybe it’s the creepy look in the librarian’s eyes, or the weird feeling Cyn gets whenever she’s around him. Before long Cyn realizes that Mr. Gabriel is, in fact . . . a demon. Now, in addition to saving the school musical from technical disaster and trying not to make a fool of herself with her own hopeless crush, Cyn has to save her best friend from the clutches of the evil librarian, who also seems to be slowly sucking the life force out of the entire student body! From best-selling author Michelle Knudsen, here is the perfect novel for teens who like their horror served up with a bit of romance, plenty of humor, and some pretty hot guys (of both the good and evil variety).
Hello Sweeties. I missed you like Gallum misses his Precious.
Today I bring you the joy that is Evil Librarian by Michelle Knudson. When I say joy, I do mean joy, as much joy (whoa, I might have to invest in a thesaurus) as a YA horror/comedy book can bring.
Evil Librarian centers around Cynthia’s valiant efforts in saving her BFF, Annie, from Mr. Gabriel the aforementioned evil librarian. On top of that she has to deal with her massive crush on the hunky Ryan. And making sure the effects for the school play in two weeks go off without a hitch. Regardless of the fact that Ryan goes from unattainable crush to lion-hearted sidekick their blossoming relationship isn’t the center of the plot. Cyn just wants her best-friend to stop hanging out in the library with the hot, but creepy, librarian. And she will stop at nothing to make that happen.
Demons at a high school? You must mean just regular teenagers, right? Wrong! Teachers can be demons too, but we all knew that. Kids start acting weird and Cyn has no one to turn to. Naturally she tells the guy she’s imagined her wedding to during Italian class about it. Their relationship isn’t the focal point of the book but let me tell you it was beyond entertaining to watch it grow. Cyn is not only freaking out about the whole demon-trying-to-take-over-my-school thing, but she’s also lusting after Ryan at the same time. She constantly has to remind herself that her life (and everyone at the school) is in danger and needs to stop freaking out over touching Ryan’s thigh with hers. It’s ridiculous. I loved it.
Cyn and Annie’s friendship is what keeps this book going. If Cyn didn’t love Annie as much as she did we wouldn’t have had this hilarious and eerie tale. While under demonic influence Annie says some pretty hurtful things to Cyn but that doesn’t stop our heroine! In fact it makes her work twice as hard at figuring out a way out of this whole mess. I don’t want to ruin it for you, but I will tell you this: I wish I had friend in high school that would travel through a demonic portal to another dimension to rescue me.
Cynthia Rothschild is a bad ass.
I adored the way that Cyn was written, she’s your average teenage girl just trying to make it through high school unscathed and be the effects director for the school play. Which is pretty realistic if you ask me. I haven’t even mentioned the sass! Cynthia has so much sass oozing out of her pores and I thank Michelle Knudson for this. So much.
Overall I give Evil Librarian 5 Tacos out of the Taco Scale of Awesome. I laughed, I stressed and I fought along with Cyn and Ryan. I found out earlier today that this is the first book in a trilogy. Which made me break out in my Taco Salsa dance.
Until next time. Mon, over and out.
