Happy Thursday Peeps!
Today I bring to you a review a long time in the making. I’ve been trying to get this review together for what seems like an eternity, life gets in the way sometimes, but hey it has arrived!
A LOVER’S LAMENT
By KL Grayson & BT Urruela
- Release Date: October 6, 2015
- Genre: Military, New Adult, Romance
In a matter of seconds my entire world changed, and it was in that moment that I stopped living and simply began to exist.
In my grief, I sent a letter to the first boy I ever loved. I hoped in writing it I’d find some peace from the nightmare I was living, some solace in my anger.
I didn’t expect him to write back. I wasn’t prepared for his words, and I certainly wasn’t ready for the impact this soldier would have on my life. A deep-rooted hate transformed into friendship, and then molded into a love like I’d never known before.
Sergeant Devin Ulysses Clay did what I couldn’t: he put the shattered pieces of my heart back together, restoring my faith in humanity and teaching me how to live again.
But now that I’m whole, I have a decision to make. Do I return to my life as I knew it and the fiancé I left behind, or do I walk away from it all for the only man to ever break my heart?
A SILVIA REVIEW
I want to start by saying that I really didn’t know what to expect from this book. This was the first book I’ve read from KL Grayson and it was also her co-author, BT Urruela’s first turn at writing a book. It was better than I could have imagined. This book was so well written from both sides. I was blown away at how descriptive each writer was, it really drew you into the story and made it feel real. Heck, it could have been real.
Fair warning, be prepared to be on an emotional roller-coaster when you read this book. I’ll admit it, I ugly cried a few times, yes I did.
The book is written from the point of view of the two main characters, bouncing back and forth. At times I felt that there was more from Katie’s point-of-view than Devin, but it worked for this story.
The female lead Katie, what a great character, she was so full of life, and at the same time so damaged. Through her story you see her rise above all the pain in her life, it’s a twisty journey but the importance of it is how she gets to her happy place.
Oh Devin, what can I say about you. Devin is one kick-ass male lead. Seriously, I fell for him instantly. Smart, strong-willed and minded, and deep, very deep. Just an all around great guy, you can tell he is well respected by all the other characters. And oh how Katie describes him, he’s one sexy man. Seriously dreamy. And like Katie, Devin has his issues, and we go on this emotional roller coaster with him while he is in combat. Oh, did I forget to mention this book is a military romance?! And people, we get the real feel here with a lot of the combat dialogue, with BT writing Devin’s POV and he himself having been in combat, it’s sounds so real because it came from real experience. Devin’s POV drew me in so much knowing that the writing came from experience.
So the combined stories gets us to their story, and it’s a beautiful one, where first love could be true love. Their journey is super bumpy, and 10 years in the making, but anything that’s truly amazing is worth fighting for, right? And their path together, to get together is an amazing battle they work thru and fight for together in more ways than one. I don’t want to give any spoilers but I wept thru the final chapter and epilogue and reread it about three time. It’s a beautifully amazing and gritty book, you can tell the authors poured their hearts into it.
If you’ve ever suffered loss, this book will touch your heart. If you had to walk away from someone even if they were a good friend, but you knew it was for the best, this book will tug at your chest. If you ever regretted your past, this book has the feels. If you’ve ever dreamed of getting back the one that got away, this book is going to pull on your heartstrings big time. Read this book, it’s amazing, just make sure you have tissues close by.
