Today our editor, Silvia, joins the blogging and beauty world. Help me give her a warm welcome. Welcome Silvia!
I’ve been hearing about Micellar Water as a facial cleanser for a few months, and decided to try it. I was a little skeptical and wondered how “water” was going to get my face completely clean, but to my surprise it did. Being the nerd that I am, I did a little research and came across an article that explained how this water does its job so well. So here’s how it works:
Simple Skincare’s advisory board member and Beverly Hills dermatologist Dr. Debra Luftman explained why we should maybe consider doing as the French do and stop washing our face with normal water. First things first—what exactly is the “micellar” in micellar water? “Micellar water contains small particles called micelles,” Luftman explains. “They work like a miniature sponge, mopping up dirt and makeup while hydrating your skin. Micelles have an oil-loving ‘tail’ that traps dirt, oil, and makeup and a water-loving ‘head’ that allows the micelles to dissolve impurities so they can easily be wiped away. Micellar waters are super-gentle, so they won’t strip or irritate the skin while cleansing,” she says. “All skin types can benefit from micellar water, but I especially recommend it for those with dry, sensitive, or acne-prone skin. Simple Skincare’s Micellar Cleansing Water boosts skin’s hydration by 90%, is triple purified, and enriched with vitamins.” source
This stuff is really magical water, it really gets your skin clean. I mean REALLY clean. I don’t wear much makeup but you can see from the pictures below that the micellar water just wipes every last bit makeup off your face. The best part is the feeling after you are done, it almost feels like you used an astringent but better, fresh and clean without the alcohol after burn of astringent. I have extremely sensitive skin (no joke, I’m allergic to about 90% of all beauty products, I really should be in a bubble), but micellar water is so gentle I’ve had no reaction. I’ve even used it on my 3 year old to wipe down her face after she’s played in the dirt, it is seriously better than soap and regular water.
Beauty nerds, I highly recommend micellar water. I’ve been using Simple Micellar Cleansing Water. I paid $7 USD for a 6.7 fl oz bottle. And works just as it should.
