Dry Lips 911!

Hi, I have dry, cracked lips. At times, they peel and bleed. Who wants to give me a kiss? No, that definitely does not sound attractive or kissable. Lips are a sensitive part of the face, and because of that, they deserve special treatment. Nobody wants to be picking at dead skin, and when lips get too cracked, it’s very painful. If you like spicy or acidic food, that can create an even bigger problem and in the summer they can get sunburned and very dry from sun exposure.

You might think that simply applying lip balm is all it takes, NOT! Stick with me, and follow the three easy steps below for soft kissable lips. You’ll thank me later.

  • Step 1 Exfoliate: In order to get your lips to absorb and hold moisture, you’re going to have to get the dead skin off. Try this: 1 teaspoon of organic coconut oil, and 1 teaspoon of organic raw sugar, you can find these items pretty much at any supermarket. Mix the sugar and oil with your finger and apply to your lips. You can let it soak in for two to three minutes so the coconut oil can moisturize and help soften dead skin, and then begin to scrub your lips. Use your index finger and go in a circular motion, making sure to cover your entire mouth a few times, rinse off the scrub and let your lips rest for a few minutes.
  • Step 2 Moisturize and soothe: Honey, yes Honey moisturizes your lips and has antibiotic properties, but it’s also nice and thick, which means that it will stay on when you apply it. You can leave it on for about 15 minutes, no licking If you can resist, or leave it until your lips have absorbed most of the honey. Then wipe off and put some of your favorite lip balm.
  • Step 3 Protect from sun and weather: It doesn’t matter the time of the year, the sun is always there and beaming. Even on cloudy days, UV rays are still there. Let’s not forget about the weather either. For those of us that live where the winters are brutal, you know how awful it feels when that gust of wind hits your face. Most of neglect our lips, but you shouldn’t. It’s one of the first things people see when they look at you. So protecting your lips from the elements it’s important. I recommend, using a lip balm with SPF 25+ a few times a day. This, along with the previous steps above, will leave your lips looking and feeling amazing.
