For the longest time, I’ve been wanting to join Birchbox. I don’t know why I waited to long to join, but I was beyond excited to get my first box.

I twirled in glee, holding the box, when I received it in the mail. And then I opened it… What a HUGE disappointment! I think I was more excited about the packaging than anything else in the box. I mean it is a super cute box! But that’s about it.

When I joined I specifically said not to send fragrance samples, and of course I received one. I don’t like perfume because I have bad respiratory allergies. Spring is amazing but it’s also my nemesis. I said not to send skin and hair products, that’s pretty much all I got. Let me show you:

Never heard of any of the brands. I do understand that the point is for you to discover new brands and to find new products that we may end up loving. But at least send me something I recognize so I can get excited over the next box. To be honest, what I rather get, are makeup samples. I have absolutely no interest in getting skin care or hair ones.

After sharing my disappointment on my Instagram, I realized that I’m not the only person that feels Birchbox is not all that cracked up to be. I was going to give it another month, but then I went ahead and canceled my subscription. And in turn I’ve joined Ipsy. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it.

In my opinion, Birchbox is not worth it. But because I don’t like it, that doesn’t mean you don’t. Are you a subscriber? What’s been the favorite sample you’ve received?
